A Winchester man faces charges of second-degree burglary and first-degree strangulation from an alleged incident on April 22.

According to the arrest citation, officers were called to a home on Western Avenue where a woman, whom the Sun will not identify for privacy reasons, stated that she and 42-year-old Henry Derks had been fighting, and he had put his hands around her neck in an attempt to make her be quiet.

According to the woman, he grabbed her several times, yelled at her, put his hands around her neck, and squeezed her throat.

She stated that he has done this several times in the past and that he also hit her in the back of the head last time when they were arguing.

According to the citation, the woman also stated that when this happened earlier, she called 911, and Derks had run out of the house and hid in a creek behind the house. He later returned to the house, popped open the back kitchen window and crawled into the house.

Derks is currently lodged at Clark County Detention Center, where he’s being held on a $15,000 bond for the two charges and a $5,000 bond for an unrelated charge.
