Mary Catherine “Kay” Kohlbecker, widow of Carl William Kohlbecker, completed a life so very well lived on May 1, 2023 at her home in Winchester, KY. She was 96. Born September 12, 1926 in Brownsville, Texas to parents Lester and Catherine Elston. She was preceded in death by Carl, her husband of 65 years, her first born daughter Linda Kay, a sister Norma Maxedon and sister-in-law Norma Garner. She is survived by her sister Ruth Fifer and daughters Karen Ward (Chip), Kathy Houlihan (Spence), Debbie Edwards (Harold),Tresa Bridges (Shane), Mary Kay Sellars(Sam Smith), all of Winchester and Carla Erasime (Norb) of Dallas, Texas. Also survived by her grandchildren Sean, Spencer, Riley, Harold, Hunter, Carl, Adam, Megan, Will, Heather, Michael and her great grandchildren Cameron, Maysie, Will, Khloe, Kate, Emma, Charlotte, Brantley, Ben and Ellie, as well as several nieces and nephews. A devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Agatha Academy, Kay participated in numerous charitable endeavors over the years in expression of her faith and love of her community. But her calling was dedicating her life as mother and wife to ensure her family was raised well, showered with love and kindness and serving as a role model to her girls, and later, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. And all knew they could always depend on her. That she would be there, providing all the love, care and support they might need to help them get through even the most difficult, challenging times in their lives. She may be gone from this world, but her soft, gentle voice, the glint in her eyes and that endearing smile will live on with all those who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to thank Hospice East, Palliative Care and a special thank you to caregiver Joy Hill. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Agatha Academy. Her grandchildren served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Church. Visitation was held on 5-7PM Thursday, May 4, at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home with the Saying of the Rosary at 7PM. A Celebration of Life took place at 10:30AM Friday, May 5 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Funeral mass conducted by Fr. Frank Brawner and Fr. Norman Fischer. Graveside services were held at The Winchester Cemetery.
