Lady Cards celebrate seniors as district tourney beckons

A week after locking up the second seed in the 40th District Tournament, the George Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals (9-19) dropped a pair of close contests before righting the ship with a hard-fought road victory.

The Franklin County Lady Flyers’ defended their home turf against GRC, 11-10, in a game that stretched into extra innings last Thursday.

Wolfe County spoiled Senior Night on Monday with a 5-2 victory over the Lady Cards.

Before the game, seniors Ryleigh Vanhoose and Sydney Miller were honored. While Miller has seen limited playing time this season, Vanhoose has been a key cog in GRC’s lineup. She is currently second on the team in batting average (.367) and RBIs (13).

The Lady Cards snapped their three-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 5-2 road victory over the Estill County Lady Engineers.

GRC was defeated the Madison Southern Lady Eagles in a road bird battle, 12-10, on Wednesday.

They will close the regular season with a road game against Fredrick Douglass on Friday and a home contest against Grant County on Saturday before taking on the Bourbon County Lady Colonels next Monday in the 40th District Tournament.
