Shearer Elementary School said “Thank you” to its volunteers on Friday.
“Throughout the year, we depend on so many of our volunteers to help us with our families, whether it is clothing, hygiene bags, mentors or reading to our students,” said the school’s Family Resource Center Coordinator, Kristi Carter.
To show its appreciation, the school invited all volunteers to come and enjoy a free lunch cooked by Kentucky Farm Bureau’s Clark County agency.
The event took place at the end of Staff Appreciation Week.
“We think this should be an annual event,” Carter said. “We thought it would be nice if our teachers could mingle with our volunteers.”
The school sees anywhere from 20-25 volunteers grace its halls weekly., which is down from previous school years.
“With COVID, we lost a lot of our regular volunteers, but it is starting to build back up,” Carter said.
The school system is always looking for more volunteers.
“We need volunteers. Anyone who is willing to donate their time, we will find a place for them, wherever they feel comfortable,” Carter said.
Interested parties can contact a school’s family resource center by telephone or email. Those looking to work directly with children will be required to submit to a background check.
