Lady Cards fall in 10th Region Tournament opener

The young George Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals put up a valiant effort in their season-ending 4-3 loss to the Campbell County Lady Camels in the 10th Region Tournament in Paris Monday evening.

GRC (10-24) quickly tied the score at 2 in the top of the third inning after the Lady Camels (20-5) took the lead during the bottom half of the frame.

Campbell County doubled its lead in the top half of the fifth, but GRC chalked up one run back during its turn to bat half an inning later.

However, the one-run deficit proved challenging to overcome as the Lady Camels did not cede another run the rest of the way.

Eighth-grader Lilli Hill primed the GRC attack. Hill went 2-of-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs.

Fellow eighth-grader Bella Guinn finished also went 2-of-4 at the plate. Guinn also excelled in the circle, throwing 5.1 innings during which she allowed two runs on six hits. She also walked and struck out three batters.

Hill had a strikeout out in less than an inning of relief.

Campbell County fell to Harrison County, 11-5, in the region semifinals on Wednesday. Harrison County will face 40th District Champion Montgomery County on Thursday in the region championship game. The Lady Indian advance by defeating Bracken County 7-2 on Wednesday.
