The ground was broken for the long-awaited new Clark County Preschool in February, and last Tuesday, the Clark County Public Schools (CCPS) Board of Education heard an update on the project from a familiar face.
“I’ll tell you one thing when we finish this start of the art building, and I know this preschool staff, you are going to see student success,” said Paul Christy, a former CCPS superintendent.
Formally approved in late 2020, the new preschool, which will be located near Strode Station Elementary, will be over 40,000 square feet with a capacity of 450 students. The project is estimated to cost nearly $21 million and will take almost two years to construct.
“You would not even recognize [the construction site] from last week,” Christy said.
Construction crews have been leveling the land and are currently constructing the front drive and park areas.
The scheduled blasting lasted for ten days and produced “plenty of topsoil,” Christy said, which is good since it means not “much will be hauled” off the construction site.
The former superintendent reported that the building pad is complete and the project is “through the dirt part.”
The building’s water lines have been delivered and will soon be laid. Christy said that the treeline around the building had been cleared as well.
Bush honored
A CCPS central office team member, Christy Bush, was given special surprise recognition last Tuesday.
Bush is the District Director of Pupil Personnel and Student Support Services.
“A lot of the board members have talked and really want to give a shoutout to this person,” said Superintendent Dustin Howard. “We want to present this proudly to Ms. Christy Bush for going above and beyond to serve the students of Clark County.”
