Richard Griggs “Dick” Lewis passed away peacefully on June 6, 2023, at his home in Fort Myers, Florida. He was born to Millard Griggs and Frances Moncure (née Boxley) Lewis on July 31, 1942, in Winchester, Kentucky.
He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Civil Engineering and practiced as an engineer until he retired. He was a beloved son, husband, brother, uncle, and father.
Dick is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vickie Lee Lewis (née Paynter) of Fort Myers. He is also survived by a son Richard Griggs Lewis II, his wife, Karyn, of North Captiva Island, and a daughter Jane Lydia Kelly and her husband, Carlos, of Fort Myers. He leaves a granddaughter Kathryn Lydia Lewis and her fiancé Neil Singh of Miami Beach, and a grandson Andrew John Griggs Lewis of New York, New York. He is survived by his brother Thomas Bruce Lewis and a brother-in-law Harry Andrew Paynter, both of Winchester, Kentucky, and he is predeceased by a brother James Rucker Lewis. In addition, he leaves dearly loved cousins and cherished nieces and nephews.
His family and friends bestow tribute to his life’s work and what it meant to him and many others.
