Originally from India and having lived in New York City, Jimmy Patel might not have always foreseen living in Winchester.

However, it has helped him reach his ultimate goal.

A long-time aspiring business owner, Patel has earned the opportunity with Tropical Smoothie Cafe opening up a location at 1600 Bypass Avenue.

“I give my best to service [and] delivery, whatever [the customers] want,” Patel said. “I do it through my day.”

During the last whole week of July, Tropical Smoothie Cafe also celebrated its welcoming to the Winchester-Clark County Chamber of Commerce.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe, founded in 1993, features a variety of healthy and plant-based smoothie choices and food such as flatbreads, wraps and quesadillas.

As such, individuals can enjoy their visit when dining in while also benefiting from the fact that the Winchester location has a drive-thru.

Thus, it’s an ideal stopping point for individuals, even if they face particular time constraints or can’t exit the vehicle for any particular reason.

The business can also support potential shoppers at their place of convenience.

“Anybody [having] a function [such as] a birthday party or anything, we deliver the food and smoothie,” Patel added.

Rit Patel, brother of Jimmy Patel, assisted in the process of opening the store.

Along with Jimmy, he was quick to point out the advantages of Winchester.

“It’s hard to find a location because either the landlord doesn’t agree or something’s not right,” Rit Patel said. “We saw Winchester was a good opportunity; we’re like, ‘Why not do it here?’ It’s still developing. If we can help out the community, we’ll try to do our best as well.”

While customers were already filing in this past week, the community of Winchester can look forward to much in the foreseeable future.

To coincide with its opening, the business will sell all smoothies at a cost of just $2.99 on Thursday, Aug. 3.

On Friday, Aug. 4, they will continue offering discounts with all flatbread options selling at a cost of $3.99.

And, while edible straws in flavors like strawberry and lime create additional appeal, the business also comes out with new smoothie choices every few months.

For example, a non-alcoholic variation of strawberry margarita and watermelon mojito has been on the menu this summer.

Customers also have an opportunity to mix and match different selections.

Just days into their opening, with hopes for much more, the team at Tropical Smoothie Cafe looks to continue being a part of Winchester.

“Hopefully, the community helps us out and lets our business thrive,” Rit Patel said. “That way, we can help [give] back in our community and hopefully grow and expand in Winchester and other local areas.”
