James Michael Codell, 79, of Winchester, husband of Cindy Darling Codell, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at his son’s home in Frankfort, KY. A native of Winchester, KY, Michael was the son of the late Ann Virginia Nave (Codell) Talbott and Michael Thomas Codell. He graduated from Clark Co. High Scholl and Eastern Kentucky University. After completing his student teaching at Bryan Station Junior High School, he taught industrial arts at Tates Creek Senior High School in Lexington, KY. While teaching in Fayette Co., Michael was elected to the Clark Co. School Board, serving as Chairman. Later he worked as a property manager for Jerrico, and finally worked as inspector for several engineering companies. He was a member of the Winchester Country Club and Clark Co. Fish and Game Club. Michael enjoyed fishing, dove hunting, boating and driving his Model A Ford. He was an excellent navigator and driver for family trips across the United States and Canada to visit historic and scenic sites. Michael will be remembered for the love and joy that he gave to his family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children; Leigh Ann Codell Boehmer(Jeffrey) of Cleves, OH and William Frederick Codell (Pamela) of Frankfort; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Boehmer, Anna Katherine Boehmer, Tyler Robert Boehmer and Catherine Darling Codell. Michael was preceded in death by brother, William Thomas Codell; his stepfather, J. Scott Talbott, Sr., and two aunts, Malinda Nave Seay and Rose Codell Pellicane. Visitation will be Monday, August 14 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home and private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 15, at 11:00 am, at the Winchester Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 663 Teaton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601.
