Lady Cards torch the nets as season gets underway

The George Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals are off to a 1-1-2 start in their first campaign under new head coach Erica Hanson.
The Lady Cards opened the season on Aug. 7 with a 6-3 loss to Dixie Heights. Junior midfielder Ella Vanhooser scored a season-opening brace and was joined by junior forward Reese Patrick in the scoring column. Patrick and senior defender Makili Tabor each picked up an assist.
Vanhooser picked up another brace in a 2-2 draw on Aug. 9 against Lafayette in the Fayette County Soccer Spectacular.
GRC entered the win column for the first time on Aug. 14 with an 8-0 thrashing at Bryan Station in their final game of the Spectacular. Senior forward Madison Stapleton, the team’s leading returning goal threat, scored a hat trick and
Vanhooser scored another brace. Patrick, junior defender Cassie Lowe and freshman midfielder Emma Cecil all also found the back of the net.
The Lady Cards drew on Monday at home against Great Crossing. Stats were not available as of early Wednesday afternoon.
GRC hits the road this weekend to take on Loveland (Ohio).
