News Release

The Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association (KEHA) is a volunteer organization that works to improve the quality of life for families and communities through leadership development, volunteer service, and education. The organization operates in partnership with the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service. County Extension Agents for Family and Consumer Sciences work closely with KEHA members and clubs to provide educational programming and coordinate community activities.

Oct. 8-14, 2023, KEHA celebrated KEHA Week across the commonwealth. Officially established in 1932, the state organization’s 11,229 members are dedicated to learning, leading, and serving. The Clark County Homemakers, our local branch of the association, has been a staple in our county for nearly 100 years. Educational programs highlight topics including heritage skills, nurturing families, food safety, nutrition, reducing waste, leadership, avoiding scams, civic engagement, and many more.

Volunteer service is a strong emphasis in KEHA. The 250 members of the Clark County Homemakers provided nearly $545,000 worth of service to Clark County through their volunteer hours last year. Statewide, members annually report more than 500,000 volunteer hours in support of Extension and community projects with a value that exceeds $13.4 million to the commonwealth.

Since 1977, KEHA has actively supported the University of Kentucky Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. The Clark County Homemakers donate a portion of their dues to this fund and have locally held two ovarian cancer research fundraising teas to raise more funds. They have plans to continue this fundraising opportunity next year during September, which is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month.
