George Rogers Clark High School’s swim and dive teams – featuring both male and female athletes – have worked hard prior to and during this year’s season.

During recent regional competition, positive results were reflected.

The girls’ team – led by senior Libby Taylor – had their highest finish in state history, while the boys team had various athletes finish in the Top 10.

Among competitors was freshman Skyler Cockrell, who – with a fifth place finish at Regionals – has qualified for state competition.

The Lady Cards finished in third place – their highest in school history.

As a unit, the boys’ team finished eighth overall, with GRC’s team as a whole placing fifth.

During relay competition, the Medley Relay team of Marissa Thomas, Ellory Moore, Libby Taylor, and Cooper Moore took fifth place, with the 400 Free Relay squad of Leah Pelfrey, Ellory Moore, Kerrigan Moore, and Marissa Thomas finishing 4th. The Girls 200 Free Relay race – featuring Taylor, both Kerrigan and Cooper Moore, and Harper Sebulsky – also finished in 4th place.

For the Cards, the 200 Medley Relay team of Ethan Hatfield, Knox Taylor, Owen McCann, and Wyatt Allen were in 6th place, as were the same group of athletes in the 400 meter relay.

GRC also had a number of individual successes.

For example, Libby Taylor finished in third place during both the 100 meter butterfly and 200individual medley. Teammate Cooper Moore finished just behind at fourth place, with Kerrigan Moore at 10th, and Harper Sebulsky at 13th.

Perhaps the most successful of all races was the 200 individual medley.

In total, the Lady Cards had four athletes finish in the top eight.

During a close race, Taylor’s third place finish was accompanied by a fifth place finish from Marissa Thomas, a seventh place finish by Ellory Moore, and an eighth place finish by Mollie Grace Tucker.

During the 100 meter backstroke, Thomas – an eighth grader – placed fourth. Just as well, Hatfield placed 4th in the boys’ race, Knox Taylor took home a 5th place finish, Kerrigan Moore came in 7th place, Sebulsky placed seventh in the girls’ race, and Wyatt Allen finished 14th to round out top 16 finishers.

The breaststroke also featured strong finishers, with Ellory Moore earning a 6th place finish, Mollie Grace Tucker finishing in ninth, and Pelfrey 10th in the 100 meter edition.

Certainly not least, the 50 meter freestyle showcased Hatfield finishing in third place, while Cooper Moore placed eighth in the 100 meter freestyle. Maggie Manley, a long-distance swimmer, demonstrated endurance while finishing 10th in the 500 meter freestyle.
