For the second time in just over a month, inclement weather struck throughout Kentucky.
Though perhaps not as severe, the conditions again created challenges throughout Winchester.
For example, due to impending snow and other conditions predicted for Tuesday, Feb. 11, Clark County Public Schools sent a message on Monday, Feb. 10.
“Due to inclement weather, Tuesday, Feb. 11, will be Non-Traditional Instruction/NTI Day #6,” it stated. “Please review your school’s plan for NTI days and contact your student’s school with questions. Student and staff safety is our number one priority in Clark County.”
A highly-anticipated George Rogers Clark High School basketball doubleheader, in which the Lady Cards were set to play the #1-ranked Sacred Heart Valkyries and the Cards were scheduled to play the #2-ranked Great Crossing Warhawks, was postponed until Wednesday, Feb. 12.
On its Facebook page, titled “City of Winchester, KY Community Information,” the City of Winchester announced that City Hall would be closed on Tuesday.
In the immediate aftermath, the Clark County Public Library—located at 370 S. Burns Avenue—announced that it would do the same.
“Following the lead of Winchester City Government[,] the library will be closed today for [the] safety of our patrons and staff,” their Facebook page stated. “Remember, our digital resources are always available on our website and through our apps at clarkbooks.org.”
Other community organizations, including all Clark County Health Department locations, joined them.
Conversely, Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation did open at 8:00 a.m., though morning group fitness classes and child watch were canceled.
Winchester-Clark County Tourism sent out the following message on its Facebook page.
“While our physical office may be closed today due to winter weather, Winchester-Clark County Tourism is always open!” it communicated. “We encourage everyone to stay safe, warm, and enjoy the beauty of mother nature from the comfort of home.”
