Weekend outlook: History and prayers

Published 10:19 am Friday, January 5, 2018

It’s going to be another cold weekend, but there are still a couple events upcoming.

This weekend, Clark Countians will pause to pray for the future, but also preserve local history.

Saturday morning will be the 12th annual community prayer meeting. Led by Winchester Mayor Ed Burtner and Clark County Judge-Executive Henry Branham, this year’s service will be at 10 a.m. at First Church of God.

Throughout the service, both local pastors and lay people will lead prayers for segments of the community including the schools, churches and non-profit groups, the military, elected officials and those in distress.

The service is open to the public, and there will be refreshments offered before the service begins.

On a historical note, a new marker will be dedicated Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Boonesboro Road and Quisenberry Lane.

The marker will honor the 235th anniversary of Daniel Boone’s first survey as well as Bush Settlement, one of the earliest settlements in current Clark County.

The ceremony will be at 2 p.m. A reception will follow at the blockhouse at Fort Boonesborough State Park.
