Man charged for assaulting girlfriend

A Winchester man is facing a felony assault charge after allegedly repeatedly assaulting his girlfriend during an hours-long drunken rampage early Thursday.

Joshua Couch, 36, of 126 Jefferson St. Apt. B, was arrested for second-degree assault (domestic violence) after officers found him at the residence.

The woman said Couch became extremely intoxicated and had repeatedly assaulted and choked her for about four hours.

She said Couch repeatedly hit her in the face, head and chest in addition to being choked multiple times.

Officers noted she had “substantial swelling, bruising and bleeding” around her left eye as well as bruises on her neck.

Officers also found multiple bruised around her face, she was bleeding from her nose and mouth and had several “raised lumps” on her head.

The victim said she had to wait until Couch passed out before she could escape and run to her grandmother’s house where she called for help at 2:12 a.m. Thursday.

When officers found Couch at the residence, he had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol, they wrote in the arrest citation. They also noted wounds around his knuckles.

Couch was then arrested and lodged in the Clark County Detention Center. According to the jail website, Couch is being held on a $5,000 cash bond.
