The George Rogers Clark Lady Cards danced past the Montgomery County Indians Friday 78-30 for GRC’s second win over Montgomery this season.

With the win, the Lady Cards secured the number one seed in the district.

GRC played in the Toyota Classic Jan. 17-19 against Lincoln County, Simon Kenton and Scott County and fell short in all three games.

Head coach Robbie Graham thought his team had a solid bounce back win.

“We hadn’t played in a few days so we came out really intense,” he said. “We wanted to turn the pressure up early and get turnovers and easy baskets. We wanted to be engaged early and had intensity. We we were focused in this district rivalry game and we wanted to compete.”

Graham said the Toyota Classic was a rough stretch and was happy to move on from it.

“Against Lincoln County and Simon Kenton, I didn’t think we competed like how I thought we could,” he said. “We were a step slower on everything. Scott County played a lot harder with more intensity and we just couldn’t make shots. We shot good in the first half, but didn’t in the second half. We responded better tonight and definitely wanted to win. No pity party here. We took a day or two off and got back to the grind. Our record doesn’t matter at this point and all of our goals we have set are still in tact. We have to grind and keep working to get better at little things every day.”

GRC will have a quick turnaround as they will face Hamilton Heights Christian Academy out of Chattanooga, TN Saturday in the Raatz Fence/O’Shea’s Classic at Mercy.

Graham said his team will have their hands full as Hamilton is one of the best teams in the nation.

“They are really, really good,” he said. “Might be the most talented team we’ll face all year and maybe the best team since I have been coaching girls. They have a 6’7” post that is being recruited by everyone in the country. They have several division one talents on the team. We’re excited to go and face a talented team. They’re ranked nationally in the country and I want to see us compete, play hard and after 32 minutes we’ll see what happens.”

Tipoff against Hamilton Heights will be 6 p.m.
