Arthur Van Winkle, 87

Arthur Van Winkle, 87 years of age, passed away, Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, after a brief illness.

He was born in Jackson County to the late Lloyd and Bessie Bowman Van Winkle. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his infant twin brother, Edgar and his brother and business partner, Earl George (Helen) Van Winkle; and one son, Michael Lee Van Winkle.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 55 years, Loretta Snapp Van Winkle of Winchester; his son, Arthur (Beth) Van Winkle, Jr., Teresa Karen (Tracey) Hurt, and Karen (Eric) Greayer.

He had numerous grandchildren, Michael Gayle (Carol) Van Winkle, Arthur Scott (Jennifer) Van Winkle, Sara Beth Harris, Jacob Anthony (Bridgette) Van Winkle, Christopher Shane Hart, and Jessica Winburn (Mack) Fox. Great Grandchildren are Emily and Joseph Van Winkle, Trustin Shane Hurt, Ryanne Elizabeth Harris, Mackenna and Savannah Fox, and Jacob D. Van Winkle. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

He worked in auto body repair and retired from Burford-Shoop Chevrolet in Richmond. He was also a commissioned Kentucky Colonel, and a member of Galilee Baptist Church. Arthur very much enjoyed the outdoors as a hunter and fisherman, gun repair, and trapshooting. He was a huge fan of University of Kentucky basketball and football. He was a friend to all who knew him.

Funeral services will be 1pm, Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Lee Abney and Bro. Monroe Pearson officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-9 pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Mack Fox, Michael Gayle Van Winkle, Jacob Van Winkle, and Trustin Hurt. Honorary bearers will be Eric Greayer and Shane Hurt.
