A man was killed when his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle Thursday afternoon.

The collision happened at the intersection of West Lexington and South Burns avenues at 3:35 p.m.

The motorcycle operator, 29-year-old Daniel Jones, died from his injuries at Clark Regional Medical Center, according to Winchester Police Capt. James Hall.

“From what we can tell, the motorcycle was traveling west on Lexington Avenue,” Hall said.

A Cadillac Escalade, driven by 84-year-old William Berryman of Winchester, was crossing on Burns Avenue. Hall said Berryman had stopped at the intersection before crossing Lexington Avenue.

“He thought he had an opening and proceeded into the intersection,” Hall said. “He said he didn’t see the motorcycle.”

Both vehicles sustained serious damage.

Jones was wearing his helmet, Hall said, and received serious injuries after being ejected from the motorcycle. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Police closed several blocks of Lexington Avenue for about an hour following the crash.

Blood test results are pending, he said.
