Three hundred coronavirus cases have now been confirmed in Clark County since March.

County Public Health Director Becky Kissick reported 11 new cases for Friday and four more Saturday. Five individuals had also met the criteria for recovery, she said in an email.

As of Saturday evening, the department’s staff was working 53 active cases out of a total of 300 positive cases so far identified in Clark County.

Also on Saturday, Gov. Andy Beshear reported 638 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the state’s total to 38,930. Seventeen of the newly reported cases were children 5 years old or younger.

“Saturday’s COVID report unfortunately suggests this is going to be the highest week of total cases that we’ve ever had, though our positivity rate is going down a little bit,” Beshear said.

The governor described Kentucky as being “at war” with the coronavirus, and “we are going to have to be the strong, resilient and also patient,” he said.

Beshear also reported eight more deaths from the virus on Friday and six more on Saturday, bringing the total number of lives lost to the virus in the state to 810.

“Now, more than ever, we have to renew our commitment to work together to protect ourselves, our friends, our families, and our communities. This week outpaced the number of new cases last week and, if we become complacent, our hard-fought containment of the coronavirus could slip from our grasp,” said Dr. Steven Stack, commissioner of the Department for Public Health, in the governor’s daily briefing.

As of Saturday, at least 754,985 tests had been administered. The COVID-19 testing positive rate, based on a seven-day rolling average, taking into account total positive tests reported by laboratories divided by total tests reported by labs, stood at 5.45%. The number of Kentuckians who have recovered stood at 9,091.
