Members of Celebrate Recovery and other community organizations are readying for the second annual Rally4Recovery to be hosted downtown Sept. 22 and 23.

The event is sponsored by Calvary Christian Church.

JuaNita Everman, a coordinator for the rally, said the weekend event will be similar to the inaugural event with minor changes.

The two-day event is part memorial, part celebration focused on those battling substance use and mental health conditions.

“Friday evening will be a night of remembrance,” Everman said. “We’ll have a remembrance walk for those who have lost their lives to substance use.”

That evening, attendees will be able to take part in a spaghetti dinner from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Cairn Coffee House, share their stories of recovery or share memories of lost friends and family.

There will also be activities for families and children.

The evening will conclude with worship, speakers and community prayer.

Saturday’s festivities will begin bright and early at 7:30 a.m. at The Cairn with registration and packet pickup for the Run4Recovery 5K.

At 8:30 a.m., registration will end with a prayer, and the race will begin at 8:45 a.m. Awards for the fastest times will be announced at 10 a.m. followed by a closing prayer.

A kids zone will remain open for families from 7:30 to 11 a.m.

The weekend will also feature the recovery thermometer, which debuted last year. Those in recovery can put the number of years they have been in recovery on the thermometer, and on Saturday, the total number of years will be read aloud.

Along with Celebrate Recovery at Calvary Christian Church, the two-day event is also sponsored by the Clark County Agency for Substance Abuse Policy, Clark Regional Medical Center, Rachel Fairchild Design and Beall Recovery Centers.
