Christmas will take a trip back in time this weekend at Fort Boonesborough.

Friday evening and Saturday, the fort will host its annual 18th Century Christmas.

Throughout the fort site, there will be cabins displaying crafts from the 1700s from several European countries including Germany, England, Scotland and Holland, Fort Boonesborough Foundation member Elizabeth Chalfant said. Other cabins will include frontier-style food and a display of Daniel Boone memorabilia. In each cabin, there will be interpreters to explain the customs from the countries, Chalfant said.

“Friday night is always a magical time when the paths are lit by lanterns,” she said. “There are no electric lights on.”

Children will have the opportunity to make an 18th Century-style doll, which they can take home. They can also have their picture taken with Father Christmas, she said.

The biggest change this year will be parking, she said. The public will park off Red House Road (KY 388) below the fort and ride a shuttle up to the fort site. The parking lot at the fort will be reserved for volunteers and interpreters, she said. The shuttle will run both days.

The event will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, with shuttles beginning 30 minutes prior.
