Leeds announces 2019-20 season
Leeds Center for the Arts unveiled its 2019-20 schedule in and among a murder mystery Saturday evening.
The event at the Winchester Opera House was Leeds’ fifth such event, which doubled at the theater’s fundraiser and schedule announcement.
Leeds President Tracey Miller said the new program begins in August with the musical production of “Mamma Mia.”
Middle and high school students will take the stage in November with “James and the Giant Peach Jr.” followed in February 2020 with “Schoolhouse Rock Live Kids” for those ages 6-11. The final performance will “Our Town” in April 2020.
Miller said “Schoolhouse Rock” was added to the schedule to provide a place for more children to perform.
“We added that elementary (age) show because we had to turn away so many kids for ‘Aladdin,’” Miller said. “I think we had to turn down 48. It was heartbreaking.”
All four shows are new to the Leeds, at least in recent history.
Performances will be Aug. 9-11 and 16-18 for “Mamma Mia,” Nov. 15-17 and 22-24 for “James and the Giant Peach,” Feb. 7-9, 2020, for “Schoolhouse Rock” and April 17-19 and 24-26, 2020, for “Our Town.”
