Charges against the Clark County parents who allegedly locked their children in their room for hours have been sent to the grand jury.

Aaron Allen and Dana Allen, of 101 Buckingham Lane, waived their cases directly to the grand jury Wednesday afternoon. Both were scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in Clark District Court, where a judge would determine whether there is probable cause for the charges or not.

The Allens are each charged with three counts of first-degree criminal abuse, following their arrest July 15 by Winchester Police.

According to court documents, the children, ages 2, 4 and 6, were routinely locked in their room for “long periods” without a way to get to the bathroom or to escape in case of an emergency.

In the arrest citation, WPD Detective Matthew Reed said the door could not be unlocked from inside. At the time, all three children had soiled underwear or diapers. They had also urinated in their room, Reed wrote.

The oldest had also been bound by its hand with a belt behind the back and placed in a corner.

The Allens told police the children were locked in their room as a form of punishment.

Wednesday, Clark District Judge Cole Adams Maier amended their bond from $50,000 cash to $25,000 at 10 percent.
