Miller unopposed after Clark GOP lacks qualified candidate

Clark County voters will not have a Republican candidate for circuit clerk this year.

Following a meeting Monday evening, Clark County Republican Party Chairman Eric Vetter learned the party’s potential candidate was not able to take the required test when it was offered.

“Without the ability to take the test … we don’t have a person who is qualified to run for the position,” Vetter said. “We wish Martha (Miller) all the best.”

Last week, Miller earned the nomination from the Clark County Democratic Party after two other qualified candidates decided not to run.

Miller, who already has four decades of experience in the circuit clerk’s office, will be unopposed in the November general election for a full six-year term.

Miller was appointed in February to fill the remaining year of former Circuit Clerk Paula Joslin’s term. Joslin decided to retire in January, though she had already filed for re-election. Joslin later withdrew from the race.
