Clark man pleads guilty to child porn possession

A Winchester man agreed to serve seven years in prison for possessing explicit images of juveniles.

Dewayne Campbell, 43, of 550 Agawam Road, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, one count of attempted possession and one count of prohibited use of electronic communications system to procure a minor for sex.

Prosecutors recommended Campbell serve five years for each of the possession and attempted possession charges, which would run concurrently. They also recommended an additional two years for using electronic communications, which would run consecutively to the other sentence.

A persistent felony offender charge was dismissed.

According to court documents, Campbell was arrested in November 2017 after the mother of an 8-year-old girl told police Campbell had offered the child money to pose for pictures. She also said Campbell showed the child pictures of other children with little or no clothes on.

When Winchester Police detectives executed a search warrant at Campbell’s residence, they found Campbell holding a tablet computer, on which detectives found explicit images of children, some younger than 12 years old.

As part of the plea agreement, Campbell will have to register as a sex offender. His sentencing hearing was scheduled for Nov. 7 in Clark Circuit Court.
