Two men charged with attempting to break into Clark County Community Services on Christmas Eve waived their preliminary hearings and sent their cases to the grand jury Wednesday.

Eric James Lucas and Alexander Eastridge, both 19 and of 15 Taylor Ave., were arrested by Winchester Police after investigating the burglary at CCCS along with an automobile theft from King Brothers that morning, which led them to Alexander’s residence, according to court documents.

A witness identified Eastridge from both locations in question.

When officers arrived at the residence, Lucas, who was there with Eastridge, fled from officers and ran across Maple Street into downtown Winchester.

Lucas was eventually captured near Wall and Broadway streets, but after a Winchester Police detective was struck by a vehicle while crossing Maple Street during the pursuit.

Lucas is charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest and six counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.

Eastridge is charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, theft by unlawful taking (auto) and third-degree criminal trespassing.

Eastridge also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of fourth-degree assault and was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
