More than two dozen Clark County non-profit organizations submitted applications and requests for a piece of the $102,000 Clark County Fiscal Court Fund.

The deadline to submit applications was 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Committee chair and magistrate Sheila McCord said 28 organizations met the deadline, which is more organizations than last year.

McCord said several new organizations submitted applications, while others chose not to apply this year.

“I hope to go through the applications this weekend and make a list,” McCord said. “Then we’ll schedule a committee meeting.”

The committee of McCord and fellow magistrates Robert Blanton and Greg Elkins will then review the applications before recommending allocations by the full Fiscal Court. There will also be time for committee members to ask questions or find out more about the organizations.

McCord said previously she hoped to issue the checks by October.

Last year, a dozen organizations received almost $60,000 from the foundation, which is funded by the proceeds from the sale of the Rockwell International building decades ago. The Court can also use a portion of the fund for county projects, such as its debt service for the pool at College Park Gym.

In 2016, the allocations ranged from $1,000 for the Martin Luther King Jr. committee to $10,000 for a new roof at Holly Rood.
