Winchester Country Club’s two-tournament weekend
Shane and Lucy Jenkins posted a four-under-par 68 to capture the Labor Day Scramble at the Winchester Country Club.
Finishing tied for second with scores of 69 were Scott and Molly Franklin and David and Aniston Culton.
Fourth went to Tim and Maddox Schureman (70) followed by J. R. and Ashley Maxam (71), Eric and Eileen Pitts (72), Peter and Sydney Wilkins (72) and Chad and Davida Abner (74).
The Labor Day scramble wasn’t the only event of the weekend, as the club also played their men’s league championship tournament.
“Ham and egging” their handicap strokes to the fullest, the team of Chad Abner and Clint Raney pulled away from all challengers during the final round to capture the 2019 Men’s League season ending tournament at the Winchester Country Club.
The duo entered the third and final round of the event with a slim one half stroke lead over their nearest challengers and another three teams within two strokes.
Their net better ball total of five under par 30 left them with a three round total of 90.5, a stroke and a half better than runners up Darren and Allan Henry.
Alex Rowady and Jim Fluty rallied to finish third (92.5), followed by Brain Baber and Stacy Lisle (93.5) and the fast closing Barry Warner and Porter Roberts (93.5).
