Our View: Wise words for graduates

Friday evening, 426 young people will cross the stage, accept their diplomas and embark a new stage of their lives.

Many will go to college, some will begin their careers and a few will begin serving their country in the Armed Forces.

Whatever is they decided to do post-graduation, they will be the next generation of leaders in our community. These graduates will be taxpayers and voters, decision-makers and influencers. They will be healthcare providers, city and county employees, teachers, policymakers, lawmakers and much more.

As these many students prepare for the next journey in life, we wanted to impart some words from others who are far wiser than us.

“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”

— Winston Churchill

“Dreams don’t work unless you do.”

— John C. Maxwell

“When you embark for strange places, don’t leave any of yourself safely at the shore. Have the nerve to go into unexplained territory.”

— Alan Alda

“Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.”

— Brian Dyson

“It is our choices that show what we truly are far more than our abilities.”

— Albus Dumbledore, “Harry Potter”

“Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it or work around it.”

— Michael Jordan

“Go into the world and do well. But more importantly, go into the world and do good.”

— Minor Myers Jr.

“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”

— Albert Schweitzer

To the Class of 2018, good luck on your future endeavors. We look forward to working alongside you and telling your stories as you grow into the leaders in our community.
