WMU board amends job descriptions

The Winchester Municipal Utilities Commission discussed, updated and added new job descriptions during its meeting Thursday.

With the recent departure of a utility engineer, WMU management reviewed the structure of the engineering department including its job descriptions, according to a memo.

Commissioners approved Ronnie Leggett to fill the engineering coordinator position with a $1 hourly raise.

“My philosophy is always to promote from within,” WMU General Manager Mike Flynn said.

WMU will begin the advertising and hiring process for a utility engineer by the new job description. Flynn said it would also give WMU the opportunity to have more time and not to rush hire an engineer.

Flynn the job descriptions were older and needed to be updated to reflect added responsibilities to the job.

Commissioners also approved two work orders in contract with Craig Rogers Sealing and Striping. The contractor will adjust utility hole frames and lids and gate valve boxes to grade at various locations throughout the WMU collection and will also provide bituminous pavement repair services at multiple locations throughout Winchester and Clark County.

Commissioners also discussed its partnership with the Winchester Fire Department when it comes to testing and inspecting fire hydrants. There wasn’t a previous formal agreement in place, but the commissioners agreed to share the responsibility with the fire department in the meeting.

In other action, the commissioners:

— canceled the May 17 meeting

— accepted an employee’s voluntary resignation

— discussed the Capacity Assurance Program (CAP) Credit Request in regards to the Buffalo Trace Proposed Apartments. WMU will make formal motions in upcoming meetings.

WMU Commissioners will hold their next meeting on Thursday, April 19.
