Man facing multiple charges after brief pursuit

A Winchester man is facing a half-dozen charges after he allegedly ran from police early Saturday morning.

John Sanchez, 21, of 3494 Stamper Drive, was arrested without incident after he stopped in a driveway on Stamper Drive.

According to court documents, Winchester Police Capt. Harvey Craycraft said he observed a vehicle following him too closely on West Lexington Avenue around 1:03 a.m. Saturday. When Craycraft slowed, the other vehicle passed him at a high rate of speed and continued after he attempted to stop the vehicle.

The driver then turned left onto Stamper Drive and pulled into a driveway, where he was arrested.

Sanchez reportedly told officers that he was “very drunk” several times.

Sanchez was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, failure to maintain insurance, driving under the influence, following too closely, driving on an expired operator’s license and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Sanchez was released from the Clark County Detention Center after posting a $2,500 bond, according to court records.
