Three plead guilty to assaults

Three people charged in an April 2017 assault all pleaded guilty Thursday and agreed to serve seven years in prison.

Billy H. Bowman, 47 of Irvine, 38-year-old Kennie Jean Helton and 40-year-old Tim Reed II all pleaded guilty to second-degree assault from a brawl involving two victims

Robbery and complicity charges against the three were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. All three will be sentenced June 14 in Clark Circuit Court.

According to court documents, the victim, Charles Jones, let the three into his residence on Trapp Goffs Corner Road around 4 a.m. April 17, 2017.

In court Thursday, Bowman admitted to hitting Charles Jones in the back of the head with a propane tank.

Bowman said it started as a fist fight until Jones came at him with a gun.

Sheriff’s deputies wrote in the arrest warrants that Bowman grabbed the gun after a struggle and threatened to kill Jones.

Helton and Reed were charged with assaulting Ronald W. Wiler during the incident.
