Emergency Management prepares for statewide tornado drill Tuesday

With spring just around the corner Kentucky’s season of severe storms is fast approaching.

To prepare for the hazards that can accompany a severe storm, emergency management agencies across Kentucky are taking part in a statewide tornado drill Tuesday at 10:07 a.m.

Winchester-Clark County Emergency Management Director Gary Epperson said the point of the exercise is to remind families that having a plan for a weather emergency and practicing it is important.

“If you don’t have a plan, you need to make one,” he said.

The initial notification of drill will be delivered through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) radio. Epperson said every household and office should have a NOAA radio because it is often where the first notifications of inclement weather come from. He added that a variety of emergency and news apps on smart phones can also provide severe weather alerts.
