Winchester’s Christmas parade has been rescheduled to Sunday afternoon, thanks to threatening weather.

The decision was announced Friday to start the parade at 5 p.m. Sunday along Main Street, instead of Saturday evening.

“There is really bad weather predicted for all day Saturday,” Main Street Winchester director Rachel Alexander said. “Even though there’s a window, the winds are supposed to be really hard.”

Originally, the rain date was scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, but the committee settled on the later time because of other events happening Sunday afternoon.

Alexander said about 60 entries are expected for the parade, and half of those will be floats from local businesses or groups. Entries will begin lining up at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Any group wanting its entry to be judged in the contest must be in line by 3 p.m., she said.

“Basically everything is sliding an hour up,” Alexander said.

This year’s parade is themed “Santa’s Workshop,” a nod to parade grand marshal Janet Watts of Janet’s Cobbler Shop. Watts has repaired shoes and other items in downtown Winchester for 41 years.

Santa and Mrs. Claus are still scheduled to be available for photos from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in front of the Clark County Courthouse. In case of rain, they will be at D&S Hardware on Main Street.
