Leeds hosts ‘Night with Friends’ Friday

Friday will be full of laughter at Leeds Center for the Arts.

The Winchester Labor Day Committee, with Leeds and StrengthFix as sponsors, is hosting three comedians — DD Rainbow, LC Funny and Shirley “Moms Maybe” Whitemore — Friday to guarantee a laughter-for-all evening. The event kicks off the Labor Day festivities.

LaRonda Clay, known as LC Funny on stage, said the comedians are putting it all out on the stage for the audience this week.

“They are funny,” Clay said of the other comedians. “They love what they do, and they work hard … These are some very funny comedians. You all are going to be happy.”

The second annual “Night with Friends — An Evening of Comedy” starts at 7 p.m. Friday at the Leeds Center for the Arts. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Clay got her start in comedy nearly 10 years ago, taking a risk and stepping out on the Comedy Off Broadway stage for amateur night.

“I did a three-minute set, and from then on, I have been soaring from the grace of God to bring laughter to everyone,” Clay said.

Clay, a 39-year-old Lexington resident, said she is excited to return to Winchester for the second annual “Night with Friends.”

“I’m very excited that they asked me to come back,” Clay said.

During the day, Clay works at Fayette County Public Schools, but she’s always wanted to try comedy.

“I was always the one acting silly in the household,” Clay said.

Since her debut, Clay has opened for many well-known comedians such as Michael Colyar, Henry Welch and more. She is also branching out into acting, she said.

“I never imagined that I would be doing stage plays,” Clay said. “This is something God has opened up more doors that I didn’t know I had.”

For Clay, comedy has allowed her to be herself. It brings her joy, peace and comfort.

“I can get on stage and feel free,” she said.

Clay, who uses her real-life experiences as the inspiration for her comedy, said people better be ready to laugh all night long Friday.

“Whatever you’re going through, just let it go,” she said. “This is a night you can laugh and enjoy the atmosphere.”

Tickets are $10 and are available at leedscenter.org.

“Glow your soul, forget about your cares, your worries and just laugh,” Clay said.
