Couple pleads guilty in case involving son’s stolen shoes

A Winchester couple initially charged with robbery over a pair of shoes pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor Thursday.

Carl Coles and his wife Toniya Coles were arrested June 27, 2017, after they allegedly entered a residence on Carolina Avenue to reclaim a pair of shoes. According to court documents, Carl Coles was armed with a handgun at the time.

Thursday in Clark Circuit Court, the Coleses pleaded guilty to misdemeanor second-degree disorderly conduct and were sentenced to one day, with credit for time served.

As part of the plea agreement, the charge was reduced from first-degree wanton endangerment in their indictments.

The case was scheduled to go to trial Sept. 17 in Clark Circuit Court.

In a social media post following her arrest, Toniya Coles, the 2013 Miss Kentucky Plus America,  said she went to the residence to get a pair of shoes, which she said were stolen from her son.

Winchester Police were called to the residence after the Coleses left and the shoes were returned. While officers were still on the scene, the Coleses reportedly drove up and stopped outside the residence, where they were arrested.
