Cards roll past Paris; Lady Cards ease past Bourbon

The George Rogers Clark High School baseball team ran off with the lead late in the game and collected a 16-5 victory over Paris in six innings on Monday.

The game was tied at 3-3 with the Cardinals batting in the top of the fourth when Dakota Puckett hit into a fielder’s choice and one run scored.

Clark pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning. The Cardinals scored 10 runs in the sixth inning. Caden Easterling, Ethan Neal, Joe Austin, Jarrett Blakemore, Brady Turner, and Aaron Abner each drove in runs during the inning.

Alex Kretzer led Clark to victory on the hill. He went six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out 12.

Michael Jackson took the loss for Paris. He went two innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out three and walking none.

Clark socked one home run on the day. Abner had a four-bagger in the fifth inning.

Overall, Clark had 12 hits in the game. Puckett, Neal, Blakemore, Austin, and Abner each managed multiple hits. Abner, Austin, Blakemore, Neal, and Puckett each collected two hits.

Paris racked up eight hits on the day. Justin Richardson, LeShawn Summers and Skylar Miles all managed multiple hits for Paris.

Miles, Lady Cardinals shut down Bourbon

Courtney Miles shut down Bourbon County, throwing a complete game shutout and leading George Rogers to a 1-0 victory on Monday.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Miles struck out 11, while Katie Fister sat down five.

Miles earned the win for Clark. She went seven innings, allowing zero runs on five hits and striking out 11.

Fister took the loss for Bourbon County. She surrendered one run on three hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out five.

Christina Young, India Taulbee, and Lauren Carpenter all had one hit to lead the Lady Cards.

Defensively, Clark was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Paige Caudill made the most plays with 12.

Grace Hardy went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Bourbon County.
