A woman accused of stabbing a fellow resident at a homeless shelter saw her bond lowered after sending her case to the grand jury Wednesday.

Michelle Hunter, 40, was arrested for first-degree assault following the Nov. 10 incident at the Beacon of Hope Emergency Shelter.

Hunter is charged with stabbing a man multiple times with a kitchen knife in what witnesses called an unprovoked attack.

In Clark District Court Wednesday, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Heidi Engel said the victim received a fractured skull during the incident.

“She needs not be out,” Engel said.

Winchester Police said most of the wounds were to the victim’s back and torso, and none appeared to be life-threatening. The victim also did not remember any incidents that could have led to the incident.

Clark District Judge Cole Adams Maier lowered Hunter’s bond from $250,000 cash to $50,000 cash, which included conditions that she have no contact with the victim or the shelter.
