School briefs for July 10, 2018

Winchester students named to Transylvania dean’s list

Three local students were named to the Transylvania University Dean’s List for winter 2018.

To be named to the dean’s list, a student must achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average during the term.

Included were Evan Baber, a student at George Rogers Clark High School; Wilson Martin, a student at GRC; and Lauren Miller of Winchester.

Clark native named to University of Pikeville president’s list

Ashley Renee Richmond of Winchester has been named to the president’s list at the University of Pikeville for the spring 2018 semester. To qualify, students must be full-time and receive a grade point average of 4.0.

Area Tech grads earn scholarships

Three George Rogers Clark High School and Area Technology Center graduates have earned Power of Live scholarships from the Kentucky Blood Center.

Shelby Benson earned at $750 POL scholarship. She plans to attend Western Kentucky University.

Katherine Neeley and Megan Riley each earned a $375 POL scholarship. Neeley plans to attend University of Kentucky. Riley plans to attend Morehead State University.

Since 2010, Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) has granted nearly 700 scholarships to Kentucky high schools that host blood drives. The school earns the award based on the number of donations at those blood drives. The high school then selects the scholarship winner(s).
