Runners, walkers trot to help CCCS

Nearly 150 runners and walkers participated in the 11th annual Turkey Trot Saturday morning at Lykins Park.

Though, nearly 250 people overall participated in the trot in some way whether it was running or registering to buy a T-shirt and donate, Clark County Community Services director Debbie Fatkin said.

“We are really pleased with the number,” Fatkin said.

This year was the event’s second year at Lykins Park.

The Turkey Trot 5K is a fundraiser for Clark County Community Services.

The mission of CCCS is to provide a one stop place where Clark County families can receive assistance in time of crises and to promote responsive families toward self-sufficiency.

All proceeds from Turkey Trot 5K 2018 will benefit the 1,300 families seeking food, clothing, utility assistance and housing assistance each month. Fatkin said they will not know the total proceeds raised for another month.

“To put on a successful Turkey Trot is very beneficial to our families,” Fatkin said.

As part of the event, Fatkin said a tree was planted at Lykins Park in honor of Graham Johns, who was on the CCCS board for 20 years and served as the emcee at the Turkey Trot. The tree was planted near the softball fields at the park.
