Church of the Living God hosts VBS

“Shipwrecked!” was the theme of the recent Vacation Bible School at Church of the Living God, 114 Franklin Ave. We ventured onto an uncharted island where children learned how to survive and thrive. We learned to anchor in the truth that Jesus carries us through life’s storms.

We had an amazing week of meeting new friends and getting to spend time with old ones. Our children went from station to station experiencing great food, fun crafts, exciting games and exploring Bible adventures.

We started and ended each night at Castaway Sing and Play where we would sing and dance to fun and exciting songs. During this time, children would learn a different verse each night that would be presented by an amazing animal from our island adventure. This verse would go along with that day’s lesson and the children were required to shout out multiple times through the night, on que “Jesus rescues.”

Our castaways didn’t go hungry on the island. They enjoyed, grilled cheese sandwiches on night, Hardees chicken tenders and mac-n-cheese, Hardees burgers and fries, Giovanni’s spaghetti with bread sticks, funnel cakes, pizza and snow cones throughout the week.

We had great community participation this year running between 77 to 97 children and 68 to 74 volunteers each night.

The best part — the reason why we always put so much time and resources into VBS — is the precious souls. During the alter call on Wednesday night, 20 children invited Jesus into their heart, and on Thursday night, 25 children invited Jesus into their heart; a total of 45 children making decisions for Jesus to be their Lord and Savior. Amen!

Seeing all the happiness and joy on their faces was very moving; really, we could all learn a little from them.

We have already begun planning for next year’s VBS and you don’t want to miss it. Make plans to join us on our next exciting VBS adventure.
