A single-family joined veterans in honoring those who have served their country during Monday’s Memorial Day service, preceded with a speech read by retired army veteran Wayne Gibson.
Surrounding the rose bed of the Court House, Gibson began his speech reminding why we celebrate Memorial Day and the sacrifices made by past, present and future service members.
“We are able to be here today, largely because of those who are not,” Gibson read.
The event was hosted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Winchester Post 2728. During Gibson’s speech, red, white and blue flowers were placed at the base of the World War I doughboy and the Vietnam memorial to honor the service concluded with prayer before Gibson dismissed the event and thanked all who attended for taking time out of their day to honor their veterans.
