County attorney adds victim’s advocate
The county attorney’s office has added a person to represent victims in criminal cases, after receiving a grant to fund the position.
Clark County Attorney William Elkins said Wednesday his office was selected for a $64,000 victim advocate grant for 2020. Ryann Lashea Champ has been hired to fill the position, he said.
In a news release, Elkins said the advocate will provide services to crime victims in Clark County, particularly those in domestic violence cases.
Elkins said his office applied for the grant after reaching agreements with the Winchester Police Department, Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Clark County Public Schools. Elkins also offered a match to the grant with office space, resources, supplies and staff.
Elkins said Champ will work from the county attorney’s office in the judicial annex at 17 Cleveland Ave.
