As of Tuesday morning, the Lady Cards are 5-0 following hard-fought wins over top opponents.

After defeating Great Crossing High School in their season opener on Thursday, Nov. 30th, the Lady Cards headed to Dixie Heights High School in Edgewood on Saturday, Dec. 2nd, for a matchup against Lawrence Central (In.).

The Lady Bears finished last season in the Elite Eight of the IHSAA State Girls Basketball Tournament.

The Lady Cards took a first-quarter lead before Lawrence Central rallied in the second quarter, building what seemed like an insurmountable 12-point lead in the third quarter.

However, the Lady Cards demonstrated why many outlets have them ranked #2 statewide.

Returning from the deficit, they finally took the lead when Ciara Byars connected on 3 of her team-high 16 points with just 15 seconds to go.

The Lady Bears would try to rally, but a turnover and defensive score late in the contest preserved a narrow 52-51 win for GRC.

Jailenn Green came up big for the Lady Cards, delivering 12 points, while Khania Jones finished with ten rebounds.

On Tuesday, Dec. 5th, the Lady Cards traveled to Frankfort to play the Franklin County Lady Flyers.

A perennial threat, the Lady Flyers are seven-time 11th Region Champions and have finished as state runner-up in two of the last ten seasons.

The Lady Cards trailed by five points at halftime in what was described as a hard-fought, physical contest.

However, as they had just days earlier, they rallied in the second half.

By scoring 18 of their 52 points in the fourth quarter and holding the Lady Flyers to only 17 points in the second half, the Lady Cards pulled away for a 52-44 victory.

Once again, Ciara Byars led the team with 16 points.

The Lady Cards continued their season over the weekend in Jackson, Tn., with wins over matchups over Conway (AR), 72-52, and Bartlett (TN), 50-36, in the Dynamix Hoopfest. Stats for both games were not available at press time.

GRC returns home to play Frederick Douglass on Friday.
