Indictment returned for Feb. pursuit

An Owensboro teen was indicted Thursday after he allegedly led police officers on a pursuit down Lexington Avenue in February.

Arthur Bangs, 18, was charged in the indictment with failure to illuminate headlamps, first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief and no operator’s license.

According to court records, Bangs was observed by Winchester Police officers around 12:51 a.m. Feb. 26 as he drove down Lexington Avenue without the car’s headlights on. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver continued down the road, crossing the center line several times and swerving toward another Winchester Police cruiser.

Officers deployed stop sticks, which deflated the tires on the suspect’s vehicle, which continued across Bypass Road before it spun and struck a Winchester Police cruiser. The two vehicles stopped in the parking lot near Applebees, where officers turned off the car and removed Bangs through the passenger side door.

Bangs later told police he fled because he was afraid, and that he took meth the previous day and had been up for four days.
