Battle of the badges: Clark FOP to host Montgomery FOP for fundraising basketball game

Law enforcement personnel from Clark and Montgomery counties will battle for bragging rights on the basketball court next month.

The inaugural Battle of the Badges will be at 7 p.m. May 4 in the Campbell Junior High School gym.

Clark County Sheriff’s Detective Matt Eversole said the game will be between Winchester-Clark County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 34 and Montgomery County FOP Lodge 56. Each lodge is bringing 14 players, he said, comprised of players from local police departments and sheriff’s offices.

The game itself is free, but the lodges will raffle several items from former University of Kentucky basketball players, with some yet to be determined.

“We have a pair of DeMarcus Cousins autographed game-worn tennis shoes,” Eversole said. “We’re hoping to get some things from Rajon Rondo and Eric Bledsoe.”

The proceeds from the game will go to the George Rogers Clark High School bass fishing team, he said.

Clark District Judge Earl-Ray Neal and Clark County Attorney Brian Thomas will be the game commentators, while Clark Family Court Judge Kim Walson will sing the National Anthem and Studio 1 will provide the half-time entertainment.

“It should be a fun time,” Eversole said.
