Candidates forums begin Monday night
Clark County voters will have the opportunity to hear from candidates on the November general election ballot during a two-night forum next week.
The Clark County Candidates Forum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. nightly Monday, Oct. 22, and Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Clark County Extension Office located at 1400 Fortune Drive.
All candidates on the local ballot were invited to participate in the forum, and voters will hear from candidates running for federal, state, county and city offices.
On Monday, night voters will hear from:
— 28th District State Senate candidates Ralph Alvarado (R-Winchester), the incumbent, and Denise Gray (D-Mount Sterling)
— Judge of the Court of Appeals 5th district, 1st division candidates Judge Robert Johnson (Georgetown), the incumbent, and Judge Pamela Goodwine (Lexington)
— District 1 Clark County Board of Education candidates Patti Columbia and Bill Taulbee
— District 4 Clark County Board of Education candidate Judy Hicks, the incumbent
— Winchester Board of Commission candidates Kenny Book, Shannon Cox, Ramsey Flynn, Tom Korb, JoEllen Reed, Kitty Strode and Paula Thomas. Book, Cox and Strode are seeking re-election.
— Winchester Mayor candidates Ed Burtner, the incumbent, and Ralph Harrison.
In the race for District 4 board of education, opponent Sherry Richardson said she will not be participating in the forum because of scheduling conflicts.
The eighth candidate for city commission, Seneca Anderson, said he would be attending the forum to support the other candidates, but would not be participating.
On Tuesday night, the following candidates will appear:
— 6th District U.S. representative candidate Andy Barr (R-Lexington), the incumbent
— 73rd District state representative candidates Les Yates (R-Winchester) and Pat Banks (D-Richmond)
— Clark County Jailer candidates Frank Doyle (D), the incumbent, and Randy Steagall (R)
— District 1 magistrate candidates Daniel Konstantopoulos (R), the incumbent, and David Weistroffer (D)
— District 2 magistrate candidates Pamela Blackburn (D), the incumbent, and Travis Thompson (R)
— District 3 magistrate candidates Joe Graham Jr. (R), the incumbent, and Don Pasley (D)
— District 5 magistrate candidates Chris Davis (R) and Shelia McCord (D), the incumbent
— Clark County Attorney candidates William Elkins (R) and Brian Thomas (D), the incumbent
— County Judge-Executive candidates Henry Branham (D), the incumbent, and Chris Pace (R)
A campaign staffer for U.S. representative candidate Amy McGrath (D-Georgetown) said Monday she would be sending a representative to speak for her at the forum.
After introductions, two minutes will be allotted for each candidate to give an opening statement and one minute will be given for closing remarks.
Audience members will be allowed to submit questions for candidates throughout the forums. Candidates will have one minute to answer each question from the audience.
The forums are sponsored by The Winchester Sun, WWKY Radio and Winchester-Clark County Chamber of Commerce, and will be moderated by Todd Denham.
