Holly Rood celebrates former Gov. James Clark’s birthday
The community gathered at Holly Rood on a recent snowy Saturday afternoon to celebrate the birthday of Kentucky’s 12th governor, James Clark.
Clark built and resided in the popular Holly Rood mansion located on Buckner Street in Wincehster.
In addition to serving as governor from 1836 until his death in 1839, Clark also represented Kenutcky in the state house of representatives and the U.S. House of Representatives.
He also served two years on the Kentucky Court of Appeals and as a curcuit judge in Clark and Bourbon counties
While governor, he established the state board of education and public schools in each county.
