Woman gets 180 days for attempted assault of grandfather

A Winchester woman charged with hitting her grandfather and taking his medication pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree assault Wednesday.

Heather Rowe, 29, of 132 Winn Ave., was arrested for second-degree assault Dec. 28 after she allegedly hit Robert Himes in the head with a glass bottle, punched him several times and took his oxycodone medication.

Rowe pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree assault, which reduced the charge from a felony to a misdemeanor. She was sentenced to 180 days, though 90 of those were conditionally discharged for two years, according to court records.

Himes told police Rowe pushed him down when he confronted her about taking his medication. She then got on top of him and punched him repeatedly, according to the arrest citation. When Himes tried to push her off, he said she grabbed his bandage from a previous fall and threatened to break more of his ribs.
