Our View: Hoops tourneys offer chance to show spirit
Now is the time for Winchester and Clark County residents to show their school spirit. The George Rogers Clark High School girls’ basketball team heads back to Paris for the 40th District championship game at 7 p.m. Thursday against Bourbon County.
We hope to see the community come out strong and support the team. Let’s make it like a home game for these young ladies.
This team has played extremely hard this year in putting together a 25-4 record and continues to represent the county well.
But there is no reason to wait until Thursday to let the community pride shine.
Fans can get going tonight at 7 p.m. as the boys team takes on Montgomery in the first-round game. The boys championship game would be 7 p.m. Friday night.
If all goes the way we hope, that would be three straight days of great basketball.
At just over 15 miles — barely more than a 20-minute drive — this is a great opportunity to show community pride and school spirit.
These young men and women are truly student athletes who put in a lot of work on and off the court. Just like all our students and young people they need our support, win or lose.
Even those who aren’t basketball fans can get in on the action by simply being there and wearing their school colors.
